Tuesday news
Today is the 29th of March, 2022. Finally a hope for the peaceful and near future and yesterday’s visuals.
I was reading the news all morning trying to make a list of the articles for further reading and see how my simulacrum is looking these days, but there was nothing - literally nothing to read. Everywhere was Ukraine and Oscar. On the same page - one above another - bombed cities, people in dreadful condition or dead bodies in Mariupol and the Oscars happy faces and afterparties with Will Smith’s slap discussion in details.
The good news caught me on my way to my son’s school and made me smile widely, because it sounded like hope - shiny and bright, warming my heart. The weather is quite dreadful, by the way, freezing and wet.
It looks like I was right on Sunday when I supposed that there’s plan to cease the fire and to step down for the Russian troops. The results of the Ukrainian-Russian negotiations were announced. I’ve read different versions, here’s the quote from BBC:
“...The Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation has taken the decision to drastically reduce combat operations in the Kyiv and Chernihiv areas in order to boost mutual trust and create the necessary conditions for further negotiations and for the signing of the aforementioned agreement”. - said Alexander Fomin, Russia's Deputy Defence Minister.
“Ukraine has said it would adopt neutral status in return for security guarantees… Neutral status would mean Ukraine would not join any military alliances, such as Nato, or host military bases”.
The proposal would also include a 15-year period of consultation on the status of Crimea and the separatists’ areas of Donbass. The agreement will come into force only in the event of a complete ceasefire. Ukraine also announced that they are working on the list of the potential guarantors that includes UK, China, Turkey, France, Canada, Italy, Poland and Israel among others. Some of the countries already agreed to play their parts. They are waiting for a Russian decision on that.
Though it sounds as if both sides finally agreed on something constructive, it’s too early to feel relieved. That’s just the first step. There’ll be no negotiations tomorrow. So let’s see what will happen.
It’s hard to say what made the conversation so constructive. Is it Biden’s overestimation of his “moving moral power” over “united” Europe when the USA couldn’t guarantee Russian oil and gas replacement? Did they finally discover that a full cut out of the Russian economy will bring more damages than profit? Or is it a scandal around the filmed Russian soldier’s tortures performed by Ukrainians that UN took in for investigation?
Or maybe it’s economical stabilisation that was founded by the decision on accepting the oil and gas payments in rubles? Though the EU refuses to change the currency, I have a feeling they don’t have a choice. Russia avoided technical default today. And China is sealed for quarantine. And dollar despite Mr. Biden’s dream and dropping oil prices costs less than 84 rubles today, not 200. He should ask for a bigger font for his cheat sheets, it’s obvious he wronged the number. Now even to him it became obvious that sanctions won’t work as they were supposed to, they can’t invent something else, and that he was too excited with an idea that Putin 'cannot remain in power'. Now he lost support of his own electorate.
As for the Russian part… Well, time is ticking, the dirt is getting deeper. No one knows how to get out of it anytime soon. So it’s either Aleppo landscape in Kyiv or… anything that would conserve the sewage. Roughly speaking.
Let’s hope for peace.
A digest from my Instagram for March 28th, 2022
6.00am zakharova_kaetano Good morning 🌞 How are you today? #haveagoodday it’s my third try to post this video. This time I drop any attempt to add the music that was used by the artist originally and was connected from the music library because Instagram complained about copyrights. I have no idea why it let me connect the music then with a link to the track. So here’s forest sounds instead of guitar. A work of @halwildson - “Singularidades” series about Brasil and national (?) or personal identity.
