Morning news
Today is March 13, 2022. Let’s see what’s happened yesterday, the news, the visuals. And a few questions to think about and discuss, if we wish.
This morning is quite grey in my simulacrum. I feel sorry for that but the place is the place, the news are what they are, and I’m influenced by them directly.
After a new round of negotiations around Ukraine and the peace, Putin talked again to Macron and Scholz, “Moscow and Kyiv continued their talks online”. It’s great that Zoom-time became part of our life, but wouldn’t it be even better if they actually talk face-to-face locked somewhere in a basement listening to the shelling? Isolated from advisers? With no opportunity to leave? Sounds a bit like a conclave gathering for a Pope election, I know. Though a horror version.
We know that Ukraine is welcomed to the EU and that “welcome” has its price. Soon there’ll be nothing to welcome, if the sides don’t reach a deal on the peace. Meanwhile I was looking at the resume of the Versaille meeting, a drone Tu-141 crashed in Croatia, so the country officially criticised NATO for letting that happen. The dron came from Ukrainian territory passed three countries before it hit the ground near a student dormitory.
The Washington Post printed a story “Croatia criticizes NATO after crash of Russian-made drone” underlining the “Russian” part of the Soviet drone constructed in the time, when Ukraine was an essential part of the USSR military industry. But Russian traces almost evaporate when you reach the end of the text:
“Military experts say Ukraine is the only known current operator of the Tu-141, which has a wingspan of nearly 4 metres (12 feet) and weighs just over 6 tons”.
I think we know why NATO didn’t hit it and the neighbouring countries let it pass. It’s difficult to keep a line between friends and enemies when there’s a war zone at your borders. Such a simple decision - to hit a drone so it didn’t hurt innocent people no matter the country - became a political decision and the sides preferred to skip.
Yes, I know, it's a painful question who started it all first. The answer we believe we know and it doesn’t matter right now, because there’s a better question: Who will end it?
Another wave of demonstrations will pass through Russia today. I can’t predict how many people will go out, about 5200 people have been arrested since 6th of March, 2400 of them - in Moscow, according to the OVD info, a non-profit organisation providing legal help to the political victims of the regime. What I can predict is the result. As far as hundreds of thousands of activists have already fled the country, the effect will be “zero”. People will be restrained as soon as they show their intention to walk together. Alone or with kids, young or old, with banners, flags or without. Last time they took a guy in a “Z” t-shirt that was just passing by. I have no warm feelings for the man, but overall it’s sad. That’s a reason why Moscow on Sunday is quieter than a little Siberian village.
Plus the weather... It’s grey. The sun showed its rays, but it’s still grey. In my heart.
So let’s go to the lighter subject - to the visuals and fashion news. I was really impressed by the impact Burberry fw 22/23 show had on the fashion media. I don’t know why they chose to promote their weird men's part of the collection, the whole show I shared with you yesterday. Here’s a link to Ib Kamara, who styled it:
Yep, the trousers and coats are oversized. Like they are taken from a stranger's shelves. The only reason for such styling I see only in the real life experience of the poor people and the refugees. I’m not sure it’s a good thing to use such inspiration for the profit of a luxury company. What do you think?
I really want to move to surrealism in the world and in fashion right now, but the subject deserves more space. So I’ll make a stand alone post for that asap.
Now let me share my Instagram visuals and thank you again for your subscription, for support, and for understanding. And all the warm feedback I’ve received.
A digest from my Instagram for March 12th, 2022
9.00am Good morning 🌞 How are you today? #haveagoodday Today is the last day when I post #moriningmood post on Instagram from Russia without problems….. I hope your day is nice, if not, my day is rather grey, so we are together in that. Cheer up. The only thought I have lately is about peace. If we need to pass through the darkness to reach it, let it be. #morningthoughts #morninginspiration#contemporaryillustration by @m_melgrati #digitalillustration#artofillustration #beautyofillustration #contemporaryart#artasinspiration #nopasarán
4.30pm zakharova_kaetano It’s not my scream yet, it’s tribute to #EdvardMunch. But! For those who missed it somehow I want to repeat, that Instagram will be blocked in Russia. So I don’t know if I’m able to reach you after 14th. A new date was given because someone in the government couldn’t receive their Instagram archives in time. I will try to get through the blockade but! Who knows if I succeed🤷♀️ so there’s a link in my bio for the subscription on Substack…So 📣: “Subscribe!” At least we’ll stay in touch and I will know that I’m not boiling in vacuum. Here’s source of my #finding. @lenaginarium posted a ring without credits… antique coral, ruby, gold and silver. Cool, isn’t it? And precisely in time. #artofjewellery #beautyofjewellery #contemporaryjewellery #artasinspiration #jewelleryasinspiration
