I started writing today again and again. The subjects changed, then mood changed, then I didn’t like the result. Then I thought that the text came out boring and useless. So I write just what I felt today and make it a simple diary text.
The day was pretty grey and most of the morning I wanted to sleep. The weather was sliding into rain. I read on Instagram the Washington Post shared the story about the teachers that were recorded by their students and reported to police. In one of the cases the English teacher disapproved of the “special operation” in the Ukraine and explained that sanctions were the response to the aggression. Now she’s about to be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison.
Though the story itself wasn’t the news for me, the published moral was: Russia was pictured as Soviet again and our children were ready to turn on their parents like Pavlik Morozov did in the time of collectivisation. I thought, how much they wanted to make a story based on 3 out of 200 cases based on the same legal novella about fake news. The need was so great that they used association with the poor hungry boy that was killed by their own relatives. Who witnessed at court against his own father, whom we would call now a serial abuser, murderer and robber. In the middle of hunger he used his position as a head of the village to profit from the farmers. Though collectivisation wasn’t a nice thing and led to many tragedies, that man was a criminal. Yes, Soviet propaganda made the boy a hero and a martyr. But it’s the last thing to judge that history now and compare privileged, spoiled and superficial teenagers playing with their mobiles in TikTok to that boy.
Do we have enthusiasts that want to show their loyalty to the regime in Russia? Yes, we have. Don’t you know people that are ready to fuck up someone’s business or life only because they heard those were saying words against climate change, “me too” movement, BLM, posted fur, pets in costumes, or meat? They are not killers, but abusers, but they think differently. That’s called “cancel culture”. When America hunted socialists and communists it had a different name - after another epoch entertainment - a “witch hunt”. So before screaming about someone’s moral values, look in the mirror and check your own tolerance, compare that to the cases you know at your own home. I’m sure you’ll be able to relate.
Yes, people prefer to believe in different, often opposite ideas. Sometimes I don’t understand what’s happening with their head, which part of their mental capabilities was damaged, how they can believe in such nonsense. But they do. They sincerely trust those. They chose it for peace of mind maybe. It’s their right.
Someone is stuck on traditional family values and sees any “deviant” behaviour, including having a diverse private life, as sickness and great sin. They would report on such people in any other time before, they wish they could do it now. They see it as a threat to humanity. At the same time they are kind, loving, and so on. Good people, generally speaking, socially responsible. But with minor defects in their ideology. What should be done about it?
Are they all victims of propaganda? Yes. Though they don’t think so. For them we are victims and they see the true path to a better future.
Think about it, when you call someone brainwashed. We have our beliefs, fears, values that can be targeted by propaganda campaigns. The person who shared that Washington Post’s article was under the impression that Russia is turning into Sierra Leone and soon our children will be killing their parents just because they were taken to the system and were brainwashed. That’s the power of the media.
I replied that it’s better not to believe everything that media posts, because it was always a propaganda barometer of American foreign policy and their view on Russia hasn’t changed since the Cold War. I’m not sure I was heard though. But we need to learn to defend our beautiful caring hearts from the informational abusers. We need to learn to use critical thinking. Especially when we read news or so called “opinions”. We need to check the facts before we hurry to share them. We need to start asking questions about them. We need to ask questions without fear of looking cruel or cold simply because we need to understand, not just to share the feeling.
A digest from my feed for April 10th, 2022
9.00am zakharova_kaetano Good morning 🌞 How are you today? #haveagoodday I took a day off duties yesterday. It felt good. Though talks were the same sad and there was no hope for better in the near future, unless we create it ourselves. Somehow. Now it’s raining. Sad, grey, but calming view from the window. Not as beautiful as the one you watch now))) but it’s peaceful. I’m grateful for that. At least that. For now. Stay safe. Let’s bring hope and peace to the world. And look for the beauty in every moment, create it. Treasure it. #morningthoughts#morningmood #morninginspiration video source: @juliiathompson #beautyofnature #naturalvideography#goodmorningpost #natureasinspiration #meditationmood
